What Is COB?

COB stands for Chip on Board. In this packaging technology, LED chips are mounted directly onto the printed circuit board (PCB).

Unlike traditional SMD (Surface Mounted Device) LEDs, COB eliminates the conventional LED packaging structure (like brackets and gold wires inside a plastic casing). It retains only the core light-emitting chip, the phosphor layer, and the essential connection structure, creating the foundation for a seamless light emitting surface.

What Is COB LED Strip?

A COB LED Strip is formed by continuously mounting these chips in a dense linear array directly onto a flexible PCB. The entire chip surface is then covered with a continuous layer of mixed phosphor gel.

This design creates a perfectly uniform emitting surface, which is why it is often referred to as a continuous LED strip or dotless LED strip. It is the ideal solution for visible light lines, close-range illumination, and high-end linear lighting where individual LED hotspots are unacceptable.
